America’s Most Searched Streaming Kids’ Show

Our data on Americas most searched kids show on streaming platforms reveals newer shows are more popular than older classics!

Screens are everywhere. From smartphones to smart tablets to your living room TV, we are surrounded by screens. Screens come with content, and there’s no content more saturated than children’s shows. Kids love watching other kids open toys, play video games, or learn science experiments on YouTube. But nothing compares to the endless stream of kids’ TV shows. With a good internet connection, parents can turn to streaming services like Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix to act as babysitters and teachers at the same time. At the end of the day, though, it’s all entertainment for the child.

We at GetWindstream wanted to know which kids TV show rules them all. Using Google Trends, we narrowed down 50 kids’ shows to the five most popular based on search volume. We found each state’s most searched kid show from these five family-friendly gems. While you won’t see some of the favorites we grew up watching (Blue’s Clues, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, or Magic School Bus), you’ll see some that you may want to watch with your kids, including Bluey and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

Map of each states most searched for kids show on streaming platforms

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir

It makes sense that a ladybug and a cat come together to save the world from the bad guys, right? That’s the premise of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, though initially it was geared towards young adults and teenagers. Over time, it shifted its concept and style for a much younger audience and now streams on both Netflix and Disney+. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir had the most states that searched this show, with 44 out of 50 states searching the superhero series the most over the last 12 months.

Cocomelon

You’ve probably seen the TikTok video where the parent plays the intro music to Cocomelon, and the child comes barging into the room. That’s the effect Cocomelon has on children all across our nation. A simple 3D-animated nursery rhyme TV show that originated on YouTube, Cocomelon is one of the most recognizable kid shows on Netflix. While it didn’t top our list for the most searched kid show in the past 12 months, there may be a shift coming. Cocomelon has surpassed Miraculous Ladybug in the last three months in terms of search volume.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

One of our generation’s most beloved animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, follows 12-year old Aang as he tries to end the war started by the Fire Nation. You can stream this beloved series on Netflix and Paramount+ with a subscription. Over the years, Avatar: The Last Airbender has had countless toys made, several books written, and a movie adaptation (that wasn’t so well received). And while we’ve deemed this as the third most popular kids show, it didn’t capture any top spots across the country. However, it did manage to garner 15 states’ attention for second-most searches.

Sesame Street

Big Bird and Elmo. Bert and Ernie. Cookie Monster and Grover. These recognizable names from the kid’s classic Sesame Street were not enough to top any state in search volume. Newer characters like Abby Cadabby and Julia couldn’t garner the same attention amongst younger viewers as they did since the 70s, even with its move to streaming service HBO Max. It doesn’t change the fact that Sesame Street is still beloved by young and old for sharing positive messages while helping kids learn their numbers and ABCs.

Bluey

Probably the most underrated show on our list, Bluey is an Australian show that follows a family of four dogs as they navigate family life and their emotions. A show made for preschoolers but enjoyed by parents alike, Bluey has two seasons under its belt, with the third season currently running. While incredibly popular in Australia, it has gained a substantial following in the states more recently with its inclusion in the Disney+ lineup. Unfortunately, search volume has not been there in the last 12 months for the animated series, placing last on our list in all except two states (we see you, West Virginia and Kentucky).

The Evolution of Online Multiplayer FPS Gaming | GetWindstream

Gamers rejoice! Our data shows server capacity for FPS multiplayer games is going up—even when the publishers see dips in game revenue.

Trends in FPS sales and server capacity from 2005 to now—and our predictions through 2035

We Might Have 240-Player FPS Games by 2035

FPS (first-person shooter) combat games get better with every release. Faster home internet and better picture improve look and feel, while faster frame rates and higher server capacities elevate the realism of each battle scenario and give gamers the adrenaline rush they’re after.

But does more action fuel sales? Our team wanted to know if FPS games have gotten more popular as more players could enter the same battle. To find out, we tracked unit sales and server capacity over a 16-year period from two popular FPS multiplayers, Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Our figures start in 2005 and go through the upcoming releases of Battlefield 2042 (Oct. 22) and Call of Duty: Vanguard (Nov. 5). We then forecast figures for 2024—and beyond.

Call of Duty Figures Bode Well for Players and Game Designers

Highlights from Call of Duty Data

For Call of Duty games, we found a strong positive correlation (.92 on a scale of 0–1) between server capacity and unit sales.

  • Unit sales and the number of players on available consoles trended upward at similar rates from 2005 to 2019.
  • If Call of Duty server capacity increases at the rate we predict, player count will increase from 64 for Vanguard to around 109 players in a hypothetical 2033 release.
  • If player demand for Call of Duty games rises as predicted, unit sales from a 2033 release might pull $50.4 million—up about $20 million from Modern Warfare in 2019.

Battlefield Figures Paint a Fuzzier Picture than Call of Duty Stats

Highlights from Battlefield Data

For Battlefield games, we found very little correlation (.0005 on a scale of 0–1) between server capacity and unit sales.

  • From 2005 to 2019, Battlefield’s number of supported players has risen steadily, while its unit sales have fluctuated.
  • If Battlefield sales trend as predicted, BF 2042 stands to bring in $8.4 million—but it’s all downhill from there.
  • By 2033, Battlefield might support 190 players but only see $7.1 million in sales for that year’s game release.

Combined FPS Game Stats Favor Players over Revenue

Highlights from Call of Duty and Battlefield Data Combined

When we combined the data for both games, we found a moderately positive correlation (.42 on a scale of 0–1) between server capacity and unit sales.

  • Call of Duty’s successes make the outlook seem rosier for multiplayer combat sales in general, bringing the predicted average sales up to $22.4 million from Battlefield’s $7.1 in 2033.
  • Battlefield’s inconsistent sales may tilt the picture in a more realistic direction for the whole industry, though. Not every FPS multiplayer will have the same commercial success as Call of Duty.

Methodology

To find out if game sales and server capacity for FPS games had any correlation, we collected (a) unit sales for each game from 2005 to 2019 using Battlefield annual reports and Call of Duty annual reports and (b) server capacities for games and consoles between 2005 and 2021 using data from IGN, Wikipedia, and Gfinity.

Based on the trends and correlations we found, we forecasted (a) unit sales for 2021 releases and four hypothetical release dates through 2035 and (b) multiplayer capacities for games released after 2021.

Notes:

  1. This forecast does not account for console availability, game marketing or popularity, or quantum computing, which would advance gaming capacity exponentially and break this model.
  2. Gaming console manufacturers set the absolute limit for the number of supported players, but game developers get to decide whether and when they’ll match those limits.

What This Means for Gamers

According to our calculations, multiplayer capacity for (FPS) games may grow dramatically in the coming years, even if the game developers don’t rake in revenue at the same rate. And that’s great news for the market, in addition to gamers who enjoy the genre.

That means whether your favorite FPS multiplayer is a popular franchise or one you love in secret (Doom, perhaps?), you can expect an increasingly complex, realistic, and battle-like experience when that next game drops. Good luck and have fun!

Call of Duty funnels a portion of unit sales into an endowment that has helped 20,000 veterans find new jobs. Veterans, start your career here.

From moving to your first solo spot to relocating an entire office building of employees, Windstream has the moving tips to get you back online and taking calls in no time.

Your Guide to Moving with Windstream Internet

Whether you’re moving to the other side of town or across the country, relocating your internet, phone, and TV services can feel like an added hassle. Now that nearly a quarter of Americans work remotely, it’s vital to have dependable tech with a quick set-up time once you step foot into your new home or office.

From moving to your first solo spot to relocating an entire office building of employees, Windstream has the moving tips to get you back online and taking calls in no time.

Residential Internet

How to Transfer Windstream Services to a New Home Address

Before moving day, you’ll want to complete the following tasks:

  1. Verify your internet provider is available at your new address. If your same provider is unavailable, research local internet providers and ask for new client promotions.
  2. Check your plan’s contract terms. If your move is short-term, a provider like Windstream with no annual contract required is as flexible as you need.
  3. Schedule internet activation at your new location before your moving day, so you’ll be internet-ready upon arrival.
  4. Use labeled boxes to pack up equipment, including any routers, modems, phones, and cords for easy access.
  5. Verify that your online security features are up-to-date, such as virus protection and password management tools.

After the technician completes your set up, be sure to check that your phone line can make calls, your TV comes through clearly, and your internet speed is sufficient for your daily tasks, so any issues can be addressed.

If you use the same internet provider, you can likely use the same router, modem, and cords for your new location. That said, it’s always wise to double-check with your provider that your tech is still suitable for your plan and location.

What Are Internet Data Caps?

When you’re in the middle of a task, the last thing you want is to be throttled by your internet service provider. Lucky for you, Windstream has no data caps!

Your Guide to Internet Data Caps

We’ve all been there—one minute you’re invested in a movie, and the next minute you hit a dreaded buffering screen that doesn’t seem to let up. While some might blame their router or the weather, a less commonly known perpetrator is the data cap.

Data caps may appear to be complicated technical jargon, but they’re far simpler to understand than you might expect. Though Kinetic by Windstream has no data caps, we understand that this guide may be helpful for more than just Windstream customers. If you want to get the most out of any internet package, it’s essential to understand these caps to know how your provider might change your speed or monthly bill.

Before you sign on the dotted line for your internet plan, let us demystify data caps.

What are Data Caps?

Data caps, also known as bandwidth caps, limit the total amount of data you can use monthly. Your individual data usage is part of the provider’s bandwidth (the total volume of data your internet service provider can transfer at any given time). Technically, your data is being capped, not the bandwidth, but because your data usage is a piece of the company’s larger bandwidth total, the terms “data cap” and “bandwidth cap” are often used interchangeably.

The goal of a data cap is to discourage users from overrunning the provider’s bandwidth. Many argue that data caps are necessary to keep bandwidth from getting bogged down. Still, others believe they are unnecessary and bandwidth issues can be resolved without institutionalizing overage fees and reduced speeds.

The amount of data you’re able to use monthly is determined by your internet service provider, and if you use more data than allotted, you might incur an overage fee. Additionally, if you hit your monthly data limit, you’ll likely experience slower speeds until your next billing cycle.

Why is this important? When it comes to your home and business internet, you want to get the biggest bang for your buck. That means quality internet at a reasonable price without having to compromise features and reliability. If you overlook a provider’s data cap thinking you’re getting unlimited data at a low price, you may be in for a rude awakening when your internet slows down and your bill skyrockets.

Every internet service provider has its own policies on data caps and, fortunately for you, many are trending toward eliminating them altogether.

What About Plans with “Unlimited Data”?

In an action known as bandwidth throttling, some internet service providers will still limit bandwidth speed at certain times to keep up with demand, regardless of your data cap. Even if a plan has unlimited data, that doesn’t mean that you may never be subject to slower internet service from some providers as they attempt to manage data usage.

When choosing your internet provider, be sure to look at the plan’s details, including data caps, overage fees, and customer experience with throttling to ensure that what you’re paying for is what you’ll actually get.

Outside of your plan details, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) can help avoid bandwidth throttling. With a VPN, your data is encrypted, resulting in your provider not seeing how much traffic is coming and going from your device. Many choose a VPN for the security benefits, but limiting bandwidth throttling is a welcome bonus!

Are Gaming and Streaming Bad for Data Caps?

No activity is technically bad for data caps, but that doesn’t mean they won’t use up large sums of data. Streaming HD videos and gaming for hours on end will use up a significant portion of your data, so if you want to make sure you avoid buffer screens, choose a plan with a high data allotment or no data caps.

That being said, gaming and streaming aren’t the only activities that will use up your data. If you’re transferring large files for your business or side hustle, your data allotment will fly by. Chatting via Slack with coworkers won’t use up a ton of data, but back-to-back Zoom calls will.

What Activities Use Up the Most Data?

Any activity you do online will use up some of your data, but not all activities are created equal. If you work from home or have a house full of the latest technology, you’ll use up far more data than someone who just browses online stores and sends a few emails.

When deciding what internet plan is right for you, it’s important to consider all of the online activities within your household to make sure you choose a data plan that can support you.

How Can Data Overages be Avoided?

If you select an internet service provider with a data cap, you’ll want to do some homework before committing. Take note of everything you use your internet for, including smart TVs, video game consoles, computers, phones, and virtual assistants (like Alexa and Siri).

If you simply browse casually for a couple of hours per day or use social media, you’ll be on the lower end of data consumption. If you have kids who like to play video games online while you telecommute, you’ll be on the higher end.

By monitoring your usage, you’ll be able to pick a plan that supports your activities and avoid throttling.

Does Windstream Have Data Caps?

When you’re in the middle of a task, the last thing you want is to be throttled by your internet service provider. Lucky for you, Windstream has no data caps! That’s right, no matter what plan you pick, you won’t have to worry about data overage fees or reduced speeds after you hit a data limit. With internet from Windstream, you can get online and stay there as long as you’d like.

Internet service providers might not always be transparent about the nitty-gritty of their packages, but with Windstream you can rest assured that you’ll receive dependable internet that’ll never slow you down.
